Danielle Losos
Danielle Losos is a graduate student in the Department of Geography and researcher in Dr. Balch’s lab. She is focused on rapid disturbance caused by wildland fire, using satellite remote sensing to observe active fire spread and post-fire impacts to vegetated ecosystems.
Danielle has a BS in Environmental Science from Yale University. Prior to CU, Danielle worked as a researcher and data scientist for three years at the Space Science and Engineering Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her prior research explored real-time carbon and water cycle modeling from geostationary satellites. She also engineered a tool designed to help weather forecasters monitor the burn severity of current fires to assess post-fire risks like debris flows. In addition, Danielle brings experience in operational satellite products from working for the NOAA GOES-R satellite program at NASA Goddard.
Outside of work, Danielle typically spends her time baking elaborate recipes or outside hiking, biking and rock climbing.
